I need to force update on the firmware to fix the webadmin login that suddenly does not allow me to login with the correct admin/password.

Tried unsuccessfully following the instruction from http://forums.buffalotech.com/t5/Storage/FAQ-2-of-3-Force-Firmware-update-procedure-please-read-this/td-p/11011" rel="nofollow">http://forums.buffalotech.com/t5/Storage/FAQ-2-of-3-Force-Firmware-update-procedure-please-read-this/td-p/11011

Inserted the debug flag and change the versioncheck. The LSUpdate does not want to upgrade the firmware citing that the version is the same. I am using the latest 1.24 firmware and my NAS in also on 1.24.

Is there a different way on this model ?

Have you tried to initialize your LinkStation?

If you didn't change the configuration, you'll be able to reset your admin password by initializing LinkStation with the Function Button.

That was the first thing I did to reset the LinkStation with the Function button at the back.

It was reset alright because the fixed IP is now back to DHCP. And changing the IP via NASNavigator2 accepts the default 'password' password.

The only problem is the webadmin does not recognize login with the default admin/password.

So from what I read, the only way is to flash the firmware. And I tried that using the guide given but didn't work.

Flashing the firmware with the same version doesn't appear to work even though I have changed the .ini file to disregard versioncheck and debug mode set.

Tried that already. See my first posting above.

Hmmm ..... Nobody in tech support knows ???

If you've tried the force firmware step, and TFTP step - and those didn't work, the next step is to call for warranty support.

Until then, backup your primary data on something else to ensure you have your data and a copy of your data (standard IT policy is to always have a backup, meaning data is in two locations)

If your locked out of the GUi and you just try and force the FW on its own then this will not work, you will still be asked for a password that you do not know.

You need to bring the unit into EM mode first THEN force the FW with delete user config.

- Power the unit down (disconnect the power)
- Reboot it, if the power led is still flashing more than 65 second's from the first beep on, disconnet the power and retry.
- do this until the unit's power led is constant 55 seconds after the beep and the unit is on EM.

- Please bare in mind that it might take several attempts to get the unit into EM mode.
- To confirm the unit is in EM mode the letters "EM" will be displayed in the hostname of the Linkstation in the Nas Navigator and the firmware will be displayed as "---" or no firmware at all.

Once done force the FW, let me know how you get on.

May sound like a long shot but worth a try and has worked for me in the past :-)

PM me for TFTP / Boot Images / Recovery files  LSRecovery.exe file.

Davo,

I managed to put it into EM mode. After that I updated the firmware and the unit accepted. Everything seemed to work fine.

After the upgrade was completed, I tried to login to webadmin. Same as before. Can't get in with admin/password.

Then tried to reset using FUNC button at the back. The reset worked. It reset my IP address to DHCP but still can't get into the webadmin.

The last thing I did was to put the unit back to EM mode. This time, I edit the LSUpdater.ini config file to include these lines at the end:

[SpecialFlags]
Debug = 1

Updated the firmware again and was successful. There's no option to delete user config as mentioned in the FAQ.

This newer unit does not seem to follow the steps. I am spending so much time already on this unit.
