I have a LinkStation Quad running firmware 1.10

I have various versions of OS all able to connect to the share on the LinkStation.

But Windows Server 2008 refuses to connect and I receive the following error:

\\archive is not accesible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.  The request is not supported.

Any ideas what the cause of the failure is?

It appears that Server 2008 has an issue with the LS Quad, we'll look into this for you.

In the meantime try reinitializing the device

rebooted the device and upgraded firmware to latest version.

The only way I can connect is ftp://host

Windows share / browse doesn't work

It seems the issue must be with active directory and Windows server 2008. When I turn off active directory authentication on the LS Quad and just use local authentication, it works with win2008server.

That is odd that they say the Quad doesn't support active directory. It is in the configuration menu. Under NETWORK / WORKGROUP - DOMAIN / AUTHENTICATION setup.

And it works for win 2003 server / XP / win 2000

It only fails for win 2008 server

what revision of firmware do you have and what is the first number in your serial number?

and what is the first number in the serial number?

It's possible that a very small number of Chinese or Japanese hardware versions were sold in the US (not via Buffalo Technology USA), and these may have had A/D ability, which isn't offered for the LS-QL in the USA version by Buffalo USA.

The drives are at a remote location. Is there a way to determine the serial number through the interface?

I have three of these Linkstation Quads, all of them 4 TB. They were all purchased in Los Angeles (Fry's Electronics).

The original firmware was 1.05 and I upgraded to 1.10 via the support website.

All of them have the active directory feature.

"That is odd that they say the Quad doesn't support active directory. Itis in the configuration menu. Under NETWORK / WORKGROUP - DOMAIN /AUTHENTICATION setup."

Ours has these options as well but does it actually say "active directory" under authentication setup?  Ours only has authentication type, name/IP and shared folder name.

A/D is not listed under Network/Workgroup/Authentication in our FWs. It is under Network/Workgroup. There will be three options under Workgroup for products with A/D support. Rev 1.10 does not have the options for A/D under Workgroup.

I apologize if I have made the wrong assumptions. Under Authentication Setup, I have the option to choose Delegate Authority to External SMB server.  Then a check box for use windows domain controller as authentication server with a field for IP address. I set this to our Active Directory server and it has been correctly authenticating our users for every OS I have tried, except Windows 2008 server.
