Terastation TS-RVH8.0TL/R6

I have an old device as model TS-RVH8.0TL/R6, all harddisk is spoilt, can anybody tell me how to reinstall system if i have slot in all new harddisk

I played around with this a while back but ended up just installing Debian on mine. Basically, what you need to do is get the the system to boot into EM mode and then use TSUpdater in debug mode to partition, format and install the OS on your drives.

To do this you can extract the kernel and initrd from the firmware update.

Once you have those you'll need to create a usb boot disk.
a forum post found here: http://forums.buffalotech.com/index.php?topic=18603.0 suggested modifying the ts5000 recovery disk found here: https://www.buffalotech.com/support/downloads/terastation-5000n-series to use this kernel + inird rather than the built in one.

you could also create your own boot disk using grub4dos (or really any other method you'd like for creating a linux boot disk): https://sites.google.com/site/grubdos/

Once you have your boot disk you can flip the switch on the device to "USB" boot. and then boot from the usb device.

hopefully then your device will enter EM mode and you can use TSUpdater in Debug mode to install the firmware. You can enable debug mode with these instructions:

Make sure to flip the switch back to HDD mode after you install the firmware.

I just ran through this on my TS-6VHL (same series) and it worked just fine (apart from defaulting to japanese text).

If I get some time later I'll try making a boot drive from scratch rather than modifying the ts5000 one and write up a procedure.

So here's the inevitable resurrection of a dead thread. buuuuuttttt.......

If I do this process and recover the firmware, does it wipe out the data that might be on the disks? Got one with four disks in a RAID5 and it has backups on it for a server that inevitably died right after this NAS died.
