Just set up my new HD-WLU3R1 Drive Station.  When I turn on the power the blue light comes on and 2 red lights begin flashing.  This goes on for about 5 - 10 seconds.  The unit then shut down and the light go out.   The process repeats if I flip on the power again.  Any suggestions?

Plug the unit in to your Pc and try this again. It needs to be plugged in to the Pc and to power for it to function.

The unit was plugged in to the PC when I turned it on.  It's connected to the Buffalo USB 3.0 interface card that seemed to install without any problem on my PC.

What happens if you try the USB 2.0 port on your PC? It might be an issue with the USB 3.0 card.

Same problem with Dell E4300 with Windows 7.

However, this problem occurs ALSO e.g. during a copy AND when starting the Buffalo WITHOUT it being connected to computer.

Drive station needs to be connected to both power and PC in order to work otherwise only on power Drivestation light comes on and then after 3-4 sec goes off. ( Also if this is happening when connected to a PC, try another port, may be a USB 2port. Try another PC and try another cable)

You might want to check your PC s Power save options it might disconnected turn off the usb drives if it is set to  go in to standby after a certain lenght of time.

Let me rephrase. Three different problem scenarios:

when powering the drive station connected to computer (both cases fail: automated powering when USB connection recognised, and when powering manually after USB cable connected):

- blue light on

- engine starts shortly then stops

- both red lights stay on blinking.

- engine starts shortly then stops

- both red lights stay on blinking

when powering the drive station WITHOUT connected to computer:

- blue light on

- engine starts shortly then stops

- both red lights stay on blinking.

- engine starts shortly then stops

- both red lights stay on blinking

(notice: similar symptions as when powering while connected to computer).

when station connected to computer ( xx TB copying on-going from one external drive station to Buffalo drive station, computer in use continuously for other tasks while copying taking place):

- copy window message "write error"

- buffaly drive station has gone into the loop similar as when having power up phase problems

I see, open the front cover inside the cover there is a list, I believe you might find it usefull, also if you havent, download drivenavigator,

Ampari

The ocer list helps only for situations where drive station is working "normally".  Drivenavi does not help when the pc (and thus the application, too) cannot recognise the drive.

The problem seems to be poor power unit; for some reason there seems to be a peek in power consumption which the power unit cannot handle when the drives and fan start to turn.
