Linkstation: Network routing can't be found

I have a Link Station LG-L320GL which has mysteriously disappeared from the network - I get the message:

"Network routing cannot be found. Confirm network cabling and connection".

I have a network of 3 computers: 2 pcs (1x vista home premium & 1x XP) a Mac connecting via a Gigabit switch. It can no longer be accessed by either PC but can still be seen by the MAC.

I have downloaded and reinstalled the Buffalo NAS Navigator software but to no avail.

I urgently need to access this data!

Any ideas?

Reboot the NAS device, see if it pulls DHCP from the router

you can also run the firmware update found at buffalotech.com

last try a hard reset on the unit.  This will force the unit to boot of the firmware image.

Thanks for your help Paul. I have tried ...

1. Rebooting (not sure that it pulled DHCP from the router - how would I find out this?

2. It's running the latest firmware update (see image)

3. Tried hard reset ... i.e. rebooted whilst holding in the reset button

4. Turned off firewalls

So far none of these have worked - any other ideas?

I have the same problem.

All worked fine for over one year - then I

switched on Linkstation (320 GB) and PC -  "Network routing can't be found..."

buffalo nas navigator detects the Host name. In contrast to the snapshot of renee in my case the "storage Used/Full display" is not longer visible.

renee, pho_no, what is the ip address showing in the NASNavigator, and what is the ip address of your PC?

renee

Hey - found a novel way to fix this - bought myself an iMac! End of Vista for me.

Thanks for your everyone's help and pho hope that you find the answer.

iMac... that's one way to fix it.  I was going to suggest trying a different cable.

pho_no

my ip is 192.168.0.150

my linkstation ip is 192.168.0.170

my router ip is 192.168.0.1

I tried to change the IP with the nas navigator:

Message 1  "IP Adresse has been changed"

Message 2  "Failed to attempt IP adress..."

The next days I will try to access the drive directly with a linux system to get my data back...

I hoped to get an easy plug and play system when I bought this linkstation. But after a desaster with the firmware update one year ago (had to  change my linkstation into a new one) and this network problem... never again!

frustraPho_no - totally understand your frustration! I had exactly the same problem with Firmware - had to get new machine - had to pay for couriers myself even though it was a brand new machine.

Also, it says it works with Macs but it keeps all these weird copies of mutiple files on it when you use a Mac.

The Linkstation has been a great waste of time to me - a marketing promise that was not delivered.

Colin137

What's the hostname of the Linkstation? If it has "-EM" somewhere in it, you will need to flash the firmware. If it doesn't, try accessing the web interface of the device by http://192.168.0.170/

I'm having the same problems. I have the HS-DH500GL and it suddenly stopped working. I've reinstalled the software a number of times. I've even gone so far as to reset it. Right now I have it connected to my laptop directly (192.168.0.1). I can ping the device, and the software finds the LS and gives me the following info:

Workgroup: unknown

IP Address: 192.168.0.106

Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Firmware: ----

It doesn't tell me anything about the hard drive.

I tried flashing the firmware, but it says it can't find a LS that needs updating.

I have a ton of data on there I need to retrieve. If I can't connect to it any other way I will eventually have to take it appart to get this data.

Any suggestions before I start dismantling it?

Colin137

BbeS: The device is in EM mode. This loads a very basic operating system that allows a firmware update... or should at least. Make sure you have the correct firmware update, disable firewalls, turn off your laptop's wireless card, and try the update again.

I also connected the LS directly - no ping - nothing.

I reconnected it to the router and then I could ping it again.

After that I downloaded the firmware update from buffalo. I took v1.06!

(I tried to update a linkstation one year ago with the v2.10 and this was a very big mistake... ended in a 2 week nightmare and changing the hardware...)

so I tried the v1.06 and the update process was OK.

I could see the linkstation in my network. I checked the configuration in the browser management ... and the next problem : all in japanese... it took me some minutes to find the right menu to switch it back to german.

Ok everything seems fine... but where are my share folders?

The nas navigator displays : 68% of HD full - but the share folder is empty.

So I rebooted the linkstation and now the red LED flashes 4 times after some minutes - manual says: fan problem.... ?

and of course: no more access to the share folder...

crap.

NEVER UPDATE A LINKSTATION!

I will dismantle it and try to get my data back on a good old usb drive. Maybe I use the linkstation to keep the top cover of my garbage can closed...

pho_no: update the firmware again, follow the force update procedure and select the "delete user config" option. Once you get it back to a language you can understand, recreate the shared folders that don't show up anymore.
