Connecting Tera Station directly to computer (USB)?
« on: January 18, 2009, 10:34:11 AM »

Hello,

My employer recently installed security on my laptop not allowing me to connect to any network drives in my home network.  I'd like to still connect to my Buffalo drive and I'm wondering if I can connect directly to it (via USB) while still leaving it on my home network (via Cat 5).

Model: HD-H0.6TGL/R5

Firmware: 2.16

Thanks!

Rob

Hi,

The USB ports on the Terastation are used for connecting to external hard drives. It cannot be used to connect to the computer as the computer will not be able to detect it.

I've a HD-H1.6TGL/R5 at home and about 2 years ago, I have tried connecting one of the USB ports in front to a computer and my computer could not detect it. After that, I smell a burnt scent. My Terastation then start to have all the blinking LEDs and I was not able to detect it anymore thru the network. Fortunately it was under warranty and it was replaced but then all my data was gone!

Just my 2 cents worth!
