Hi There.  I have been considering purchasing a second hand Buffalo terastation NAS.  The problem I have, and I find it a real problem is the inability to get Caddy's for the harddrives.  I want to install my drives as I play with Ubuntu etc.  While I can find cheap units, the caddy's for the drives are missing and apparently I can't source replacement caddy's.  Buffalo do not support, have no plans to support etc.

Im amazed that this is such a problem.  What happens if I want several drives for the NAS?

Is there a simple way to source compatible caddy's?

Im true amazed at the lack of caddy's.  Any suggestions of help is gratefully received.  (Yes I know I'm cheap)

The only place that you can get them is from Buffalo if you purchase a drive from them. I havn't heard of anyone selling them on line.

OK thanks for the info.  Im amazed its such as closed shop.

I'll keep looking for a cheap alternative, but it may not be Buffalo.  Pity.

Is it that different with other brands?

If Buffalo won't sell them you can try ebay.

You'll sometime see hardware on ebay sold as "

Item condition:

For parts or not working

", including buffalo NAS

How many trays do you need and are you in the USA?

I've been looking for caddies for a month and I haven't been able to find any.  I bought two TS5400r units.  One has a set of caddies.  The other has no caddies.  Any one have a set they would like to get rid of or would like to sell? Please contact me.

Thanks!
Gary

Support can hook you up if you are in the US or Canada. Give them a shout by using the serial number on the site.

Not certain of the EU policy on caddies.
**A single copy of data, even on a RAID array, is NOT a backup! Hard drive failure is not a question of IF, but WHEN! Don't take my word for it, take Google's!**

Good to know.  Thanks!  If I exhaust my options in the next month I'll give support a call.  I just have the feeling they'll want an arm and a leg for one (and I need four).

Thank you Eastmarch and Davo for your help.  I ordered two sets from support.  Buffalo support was very responsive and they helped me out.
I'm glad I found this forum!
