Having the exact same problem with a linkstation pro with firmware 1.54.  It was happening since day 1 that I got the device less than 2 weeks ago. I tried everything, even gave it an ip address, and gave it DMZ, still nothing.

same problem here too.

I have two Buffalo NAS they are both model LS-WX4.0TL/R1-EU... old one manufactured june 2010, new one june 2011 PROBLEM - the older unit has never been unable to update DTCP-IP,

it always spends a loooooooooooong time (like 30 minutes) "downloading" and gets stuck, when I refresh the webpage I get the message below "While firmware updating, Media Server update can not be updated completely. Please click 'Update DTCP-IP' button after establishing Internet connection". I disable the media server and run the update again and after a longish time it eventually says "completed", restart the unit, so I do I enable the server, I setup the library auto update and refresh time period

I enter the shared folder location "Share" which is "mandatory".. and is the only option and then I get a message saying the "location for the DRM content has moved and will not be available" but I have no DRM content so I ignore this message.. *** could this be the cause ?***

I then click 'save' but then it takes a looooooong time saying "saving data".. it gets stuck again and when I refresh the webpage I get the first message again.. "While firmware updating, Media server update can not be......... etc.."

So consequentially the old unit does not have the DTCP-IP enabled but the new unit does. it shows "Enabled(1.40-20110204)".. and updated without any problem.

both units are connected to the same router unit and thereby the internet (I have downloaded a torrent or two on both)

There is no other option for the DTCP-IP disk space just "Share" (the name of the shared folder which contains my media).. I can not write in or choose anything else but "Share"..

The older unit has been thru the restore process without a problem... they both have the same firmware 1.54 (if my memory serves me well)

One difference I have noticed is that the list of content/media displayed by the older unit has far fewer headings than the newer unit.. the list headings on the old unit is just 7 items

Album

 All Tracks

 Artist folder

 genre

 playlists

search

while the list headings new unit has 11 items

 Album

 All tracks

 Artist

Artist Index

 Artist/Album

 Folder

 genre/Album

 genre/artist

genre/song

playlists

 search

I do remember when I first got the old unit there were just as many headings but the search function did not work at all.. then after the first update to the firmware the search worked okay but the list was reduced to 7 as it is now..

cheers for any help...anyone

thanks in advance..

anyone know if this still exxists in the latest firmware update from 12/14  ?

doobre

I wish it had..

I have done the firmware update on both units v1.56

the newer unit updated the firmware and the DTCP-IP is fine..

the older unit (connected to the same router and which has been restored to factory settings) still has the same issue... after the firmware update it said the DTCP-IP was up to date, but when i went to the media server page it gave the same message as before about DTCP-IP needs to be updated.. so I tried it clicked OK...

It spent about one second saying downloading and about one hour saying "rebooting" so I then refreshed the web page

and I am back where I started... as before..

PLEASE BUFFALO WHAT IS THE SOLUTION??????????

setting my Linkstation Pro as DMZ seemed to do the trick (I tried everything else first, from using Firefox/IE, to stopping DLNA).  I know it doesn't seem to work for everybody, but thought it worth noting that it's worked for a few of us.

doobre

DMZ -  what is that, how to set it if it's on a 'on pro' linkstation

what I don't really understand is that the warning message given by the unit itself and some people who have fixed the issue here, say the internet connection is the issue..

but if that were the case how does my unit update the firmware without issue and not the DTCP-IP..??

TheIntruder

Same problem for me.  Firmware 1.56 on Linkstation Pro Duo.  Tried disabling the DLNA Server, the iTunes server, neither solution helped.  Also tried using Firefox and IE, again no luck.  Restoring to factory defaults didn't fix it either.

Buffalo, please post a solution!  This is ridiculous!!

doobre

I have found out what DMZ is and how to set it on my router for the IP address of the older NAS unit..

initially it seemed to be working.. the download completed and reported "succesfully" but when I restarted the media server the same old message came back again.. about the DTCP-IP not being updated and redownload after establishing an internet connection.. blah blah blah....

supposedly it just downloaded the update "Successfully" so how could it not have an internet connection.. it updated the firmware earlier with the same connection as well.. and a second NAS of the same model on the same network and router works without any issue at all..

I have been having the same issue and tried everything.

Finally, I sent a private message to support.

Here is the reply.

"This error is a documented error that has occurred due to the latest firmware. A fix is expected in the next release of firmware for this unit.

Thank you,

TheIntruder

That's ridiculous.  Read this thread and you will clearly see that there are people running firmware older than 1.56 that are experiencing this issue.  Not only that, but there are also people running two NAS's with 1.56, and only one of two NAS's has the issue.

Buffalo.... how about a response?  I think we have enough people here with an issue!

davidsco27

I've got the same problem on Linkstation Pro. Spoke with Tech Support yesterday and they were no help. What a joke.

smvassallo

I hope that it is a newer firmware than 1.56 I currently have installed now.

doobre

I don't think it is related to the new firmware at all.

the older of my two units is the one with the problem and it has had this same problem since it was new, that was when the firmware was v1.24 or something like that..

with each FW update I get excited that it will fix this problem.. but no......

I have had this problem for about 2 years. Buffalo you suck get your act together.
