LS-WXL Update Problem

Issue:

Cannot login to my Linkstation because the password stopped working after an update. (Question at bottom of post)

Buffalo Model:

Linkstation Duo LS-WX2.0TL/R1. Purchased in USA.

Computer:

Running Windows XP Professional. No firewalls, antivirus, or network blocking software. IP address 192.168.11.1. Utilizing a Netgear Wireless-N 300 router, IP address 192.168.11.10.

History:

Purchased a few months ago and used the network (via browser) interface to change to RAID 1, successfully. Created a few users and associated shares with passwords. Password protection on one users folder did not work right, so I decided to update the firmware. Successfully updated to 1.41 (newest at the time), but when I attempted to login, I could not access anything. The administrator password no longer worked (nor the default password), nor the user accounts. I tried all the EM mode posts on the forum or re-trying the firmware update, but nothing worked because the password would not reset. I did not have time to mess with it, so I shelved it until now.

I do not have any data on the drive that I care about.

Currently:

Firmware Version 1.41

When turning on normally, after the flashing sequence, the power light comes on solid and information light on solid orange, and the linkstation takes about 5 mins for NASNavigator2 (latest version v2.34) to recognize it. It gives the I52 firmware update error. I cannot mount the default share to a drive letter, as it gives me the error "Failed mapping. Remote default share is missing." The device is accessible through a browser, but I still cannot login. IP address is 192.168.11.150.

When I attempt to goto EM mode by holding the function button down before and for at least 30 sec during startup, after it starts the power light is on solid, the function light is flashing, and the information light is on solid orange. It takes about 5 min to detect with NASNavigator2, but it shows up the same as a normal boot, with Error I52 (firmware update available). It does not indicate EM mode. IP address is still 192.168.11.150.

I now understand from FAQ 1 of 5 the WXL series will not manually enter EM mode.

I still cannot complete a firmware update even when I attempt to force the update (as described in FAQ 2 of 5) because the administrator password no longer works.

I have not tried a TFTP boot procedure because this does not seem to me (with my limited forum knowledge) like the right approach, and according to the "READ ME FIRST.txt" there is no file for the WXL. I see the "TFTP Boot Recovery LS-WXL 1.33.exe" but am unsure if this is appropriate for my device and firmware version 1.41.

My question is this:

If I cannot enter EM mode (since WXL has no manual EM mode procedure), is it impossible to reset the administrator password and make the device usable?

Thank you for your time.

Thank you. This worked (though some steps required a few tries). Appreciate the support.

I saw you posted this some time ago, but if you are worried about the data what can I do. I have tried everything on this site but still I can't get into the box. I can see it on the browser and nas-2 software. I have reset many times, firmware is now 1.6 but still default admin, password will not let me in. Please can you or any one else help.

Hey, I have the same problem. I can still access all folders via ftp and afp, but cannot login on the web interface.
