In one comment from Jay he said he assumes updates are planned. 2 month later drmemory said he does not know of any planned updates for older models. Nobody from Buffalo will even comment on questions like yours.

So I think it is safe to assume that there are no updates planned yet and will likely not happen in the future. You will probably have to buy another device. Buffalo just does not give a **bleep** for customers of older models.

dotjay

I have an LS-CHL (blue interface). Am I right that Buffalo are not planning a fix for this model?

I've had two of these for two years; seems a short lifespan to me. :-(

spooky

Yep, less than a year and a half old and abandoned. Anyone who is even remotely considering buying anything from Buffalo should take note of the support available and what they consider an 'old' product.

boing

They were selling the LS-WS1.0GL/R1 at least until first quarter of this year. It seems 'old' in Buffalo terms means simply "not one of the products we can still sell". Then they seem to just drop support immediatly.

Not the behavior you expect from a manufacturer of complex products like a NAS. This is ok for USB HDDs and other plug and play devices without a lot of functionality, but not for a NAS. When I replace my 10-month 'old' linkstation min, good firmware support will be my top-priority => probably Synology.

I was glad to find this thread for obvious reasons (TM not working, etc). I downloaded the beta firmware update and tried applying it and it said there were no devices requiring update.

I don't get it. Any clues please.

quietguy

As best I can tell the FW update includes my model (LS-CH1.5TL). As stated above, the FW will not apply. I get a pop up saying there are no devices requiring the update. My current FW is 1.12. As a last ditch effort I tried applying the update with a G4 running OS 10.5.8 but (naturally) the update won't even mount.

I've read the majority of this thread (which is rediculous in itself - why do I need to read 13 pages of complaints in hopes of finding an answer). This is really beyond belief, that Buffalo wasn't on top of this when Apple was developing Lion. Apple releases to developers just so this kind of thing doesn't happen - so when the OS goes live everyone is up and ready. I've been one of the Lion testers and we have our own private forums and aside from internal system bugs, there are very few complaints of developers not doing their part.

                                 Shame on you Buffalo.

I'm headed to the testers forums now to 'announce'.

drmemory

You have the first version of LS-CHL. At this time, FW for revision 2, and other LSs have been released.

New FW for the TS-V series will be released next.

WTH?  ive been patient and checking in on this issue weekly, but dammit, its been months, what is the status here?  Can someone with a clue respond here please?

I have sold hundreds of buffalo products throughout the years and was a big fan, but im tired of waiting for a fix and not so much a fan anymore.   tbh, its been delays with resolving issues with wireless problems also.  give us some communication and alternatives to waiting please.

Does someone want to start a Facebook group highlighting Buffalo's complete lack of transparency and horrible customer support? Maybe some bad press will motivate them to support their products. I'm never buying another Buffalo product again, I just want to make sure that everyone of my 1,071 friends know not to buy any of their products as well.

jube

I'd at least +1 that :-)

No more Buffalo products for me either thank you. The damage has been already done, though; I actually used to recommend their stuff.

After 3 month waiting for a firmware update for the older Linkstation mini (LS-WGL) for the Lion Time Machine issue, I have now fixed the problem myself:

There is a netatalk 2.2 package in the optware distribution that works. It can be installed on top of the stock firmware (1.06). Took me 3 evenings to configure it, because I did not have a clue, but now it is working. I can backup with Lion using time machine.

All information to do it is available on the net, but it is a bit tricky to get authentication with users configured in the web interface to work (uams from the stock firmeware must be used instead of the netatalk 2.2 uams). Maybe I can write a short HowTo in the next week.

I still cannot uderstand why no buffalo engineer can do this for us all, because it is not complicated and could probably be done in one day by and experienced engineer. This was my last Buffalo product, I will buy from another vendor when one of the HDDs lifetime is over.

spooky

This company is a joke.  Is there anywhere publicising this fiasco yet?

melmalinowski

OK, Jay,

If you're still Public Relations Manager, you owe us an update on status more recent than July 28th. If not, your replacement does.

It's been three months now since Lion came out. You promised late August for TS-1.0TGL/R5 new firmware. Still nothing. The new NAS-NAV Mac runs on Lion, but it won't open the Teraserver, and still gives the 'not compatible' message.

There are many of us trying to decide whether Buffalo will ever fix this problem so we can use our Teraserver Pros, or if we have to trash these expensive devices and never trust Buffalo again. You owe us an honest answer.
