WebAccess: can I restrict users to specific folders?

I have read and read and read on the forums, but cannot find an answer to my question (which means that someone already answered it, probably). I am running a 2TB Linkstation Duo (LS-WXL) with v1.40.

What equipment I have:

WinXP laptop, Win7 Home Premium desktop, and LS-WXL NAS.

What I WANT to do with the Linkstation Duo:

1. Access the Linkstation Duo on the local LAN, as I already do (no "login" to folders).

2. Access the Linkstation Duo from afar via WebAccess using specific login names that I created on the NAS, as I already do.

3. Give User "Alpha" R/Waccess to Folder A, and give User "Bravo" access to Folder B, and neither user be able to see the other's folder.

Can this be done via WebAccess? If so, how?

It can be done via webaccess. But you have to do this on the folders themselves and then just choose "use inherited folder permissions" when setting up the webaccess folders. So yes, you have to have permissions on the folders and it would affect the local access.

i did your instructions but that only limited all users of write/read restrictions...but not visibly accessibility 

 

is there a way to only limit a user to certain folders?

 

example: my system has a total of 20 folders of various pictures, music, movies, ect. and i have user=A and user=B. i understand the "use inherited folder permissions", but how can i make user=A to "see" all 20 folders and restrict user=B to "only access and see" 12 folders of the 20 made... i only want user=B to "see" only my music folder and nothing else. i do not want him to "see" my pictures folder... i made 2 users and used them both to login at my workplace away from my homes internet where the NAS is located and both users are able to "see" every folder (all 20 made) but user=B has write restriction.

You may be better creating 3 shares:

 

1. For user A

2. For user B

3. For user A and B
