I have a Linkstation LS-CHL1.0 which worked fine for 12months and has died.

The Indicator shows 6 red flashes

I am attempting to re-flash the drive but cannot get it into EM Mode

According to the Forum it says, Hold Function button for 6 secs (before power on) and it should flash, release and re-press for 10secs or until solid.

On My unit I have tried MANY different button/switch combinations.

If I press Fn button (for anout 6secs) and hold it while plugging power in

Then switch the (rear) slide switch up to ON the Fn Switch starts to Flash

I release the Button, it continues to Flash

I press button again (and Hold)

The drive starts

After arround 15s fn button stops flashing and the, the top blue LED is flashing blue quickly

It appears to have gone into a Normal boot and does not appear in Nas Navigator

What am I doing wrong ?

I looked to use the TFTP boot procedure but the Link on the page

-  Your NAS model's TFTP boot image which you can find ftp://24.153.165.234/array1/share/nas-recovery/">here

Does not work so I dont have a suitable Image to try out.

can anyone HELP ?

Also as Its not working how can I tell if its a V1 or V2 device ?

You dont want to have it unplugged while hold the function button leave it plugged in and follow this.

Please switch the unit to off and wait until the lights are off.

Hold the function button for 10 seconds while it is still off.

While still holding the function button after 10 seconds please flip the switch to off.

Once the function light begins to blink release the function button and press it again for one second.

Wait until the power light is solid and this will restore your unit.

This process will not delete any data and will only restore the admin password and set the IP address back to DHCP.

If that fails then the TFTP boot is your only option and that ftp link DOES work and that is the only location of this TFTP boot image. You can tell the version nuber the stickers on the bottom. The V2 has the model number on the serial number label AND the CE/FCC label, as well as bar codes on the MAC address and serial number labels. The V1 only has the model number on the serial number label, and no barcodes

Just checking, as there seems to be a typo in the reset instructions.

Your instructions say:

While still holding the function button after 10 seconds please flip the switch to off.

Should it read

While still holding the function button after 10 seconds please flip the switch to on.

i.e. from the first couple of steps the switch is already "off"

I'm in a similar situation. Wouldn't work for me until I used: "TFTP Boot Recovery 1.24 All 4 Models"

Run the TFTP prog. Turn on, wait for red flashing (ie after blue rapid flash), then press function for a second until rapid blue flashing. TFTP will then kick in and load the 2 files. After about 60 seconds, you'll get the solid blue light and you'll be good to update it. That's where I'm stuck though as I'm still ending up with red flashing after full firmware transfer has apparently completed successfully.

I have the same problem. I had to replace the harddisk and installed firmware.

Everything works fine ! I can transfer files and bittorrent works.

The problem is that after power off there is allways a boot problem: 6 red flashes.

After tftp boot everything works fine again.

Maybe you can use you're ls after tftp again.

Has anybody a solution, so that i don't have to tftp after power down?

I installed firmware 2 or 3 times

thanks

Corwin
