Linkstation Pro Error, cannot recover data via Knoppix

My linkstation Pro started beeping with the red light blinking 2 times.  

Everytime I recycle the power, LS Pro stays on for 5 min and starts beeping again.

I need recover 10yrs worth of family photos from the HD. 

I tried mounting the HD in my PC using knoppix but fix_ext2_magic didn't work for LS Pro disks.  Invalid magic number or something.  I ran out of options, please help.

Just tried force updating the firmware but got an error in the middle of the update

 

"LS-GLD92 returns an error. (ACP_STATE_FAILURE) Updating is aborted"

 

Now I can't even update the firmware.  Any other options?  Thanks in advance.

Is the unit in warranty?  If so you can get an advanced RMA to recover your data.
