Linkstation Gigabit LS-500GL fan failure: Can't get my data off this drive

My LS failed with the 4 blinking lights indicating fan failure.

I found the original part no. for the fan

40mm x 10mm 12V fan, ADDA part #AD0412LX-G76

my understanding is that this is no longer available.

Is there a recommended fan replacement fan that Buffalo can point me to? The specs i have found in my websearch are not the same as the specs on the item, and I'm not an electronics engineer to figure out what is meaningful and what I can ignore.

Is there an alternate way to save the data from this drive?

Thank you very much for your help

Sep 6 Update:

I have disassembled the unit, and it turns out the fan is a 50 *50*10 unit. EEK! the spec I found was wrong!

Here is what it says on the fan itself:

Nidec BetaV

6825V A3

TA200DC

Model D34666-58

BUF

12VDC 0.07A

The unit plugs in with a 3 wire little female plug

My local Fry's did not have a 50*50*10 3 wire fan.

But I did find another partial solution to resolving this: I bought a case that the Harddisk just plugged into and I was able to see my data using an XFS utility. I have to find an XFS utility that will let me copy the files or even better just use the disk XFS as part of the WIndows filesystem. The case was just $29.99, and when we plugged in the drive, literally plugged it in, it worked! Yippee!

December 8, 2010 Update

I'm really disappointed and really pissed. Nothing has worked.

After installing 2 different small fans whose specs in theory matched the Buffalo Linkstation fan spec, the system refused to start up. So I have given up on trying to repair the linkstation hardware.

I did place the drive into a housing and tried to read the XFS filesystem. I found a utility on line , that in trial mode, showed me the full directory of the disk. I bought the software, but it was only able to recover less than 10% of the content. The sysdevlabs people tried to help, but they offered useless suggestions, especially in light of being able to get some of the content off with ubuntu. I have not been able to get a refund.

I also found that Ubuntu had an XFS capability, so I created a disk and was able to recover about 50% of my content.

Please, does anyone have any answers on what to do next?
