HD-CX500U2 standby issue?

I just bought a HD-CX500U2

 

Everything worked fine for 24 hours, then the data on the drive was no longer accessable. The drive was still listed in my computer, device manager and disk management. Top level directory was visible but contained no data. Green light had gone out. Virtual CD drive was listed but totally inaccessable. Could not safely remove drive as it was busy. Using Vista 32bit Ultimate.

 

Unplugged USB, reconnected - usb device has malfunctioned.

Unplugged USB & power, reconnected - drive and virtual CD now all ok.

 

Set eco mode to  never and then uninstalled eco mode. 12 hours later same issue again.

 

Is this a known bug? Is there a fix ? Or should I RMA this drive?

Did your computer go into hibernation or anything of the sort during that time?

Nope, Machine stays in fully active state at all times. Using other drives on the same system.

 

This drive just shuts down randomly after a few hours and wont come back online without a power reset.

I don't see a firmware update available.  I'll see if I can replicate your issue and if not I'll report back tomorrow on whether the HDD should be RMA'd.

Tried reinstalling the eco manager - it installs but can not see the drive. Did the usual unplug/replug etc... no change. Either Eco manager or the drive have a problem.

Anyone know how I instigate an RMA ?
