hi, first of all I need to say that I have never seen a technical product that was accompanied by such few manuals and documents. It took me couple of hours until I finally was able to find the Linkstation in my network. surprised by the fact that the Linkstation was in an emergency mode shortly after I took it out of the box was already a bad sign. manual doesnt say anything about how to handle such an error. firmware update was the key to success. again, I purchased tons of technical gadgets but never ever faced such problems. after I upgraded the firmware I was at least able to ping the NAS but NASNavigator2 displays the storage device with 'unformatted' - great I thought, simply formatting the four harddrives ... shame on me ... even after having formatted the device, it doenst show any reaction. tried to implement the unit in my Time Machine backup. needless to say that this was - thanks to the 'unformatted' hard disk - unsuccessful as well.

I need to get this **bleep** thing running so I am eagerly awaiting your reply.

putting a 'MAC-compatible' sticker on the box doesnt mean that I doesnt need any manuals.

I am using an iMac 27", running MAC OS X 10.6.

thanks for your help. I dont want to return the product as I still believe that it is one of the best gadgets on this planet...

how did you format the drives? Did you remove then from the unit and format them in a PC or did you do it in disk management in the Linkstations web admin page?

PM me for TFTP / Boot Images / Recovery files  LSRecovery.exe file.

hi, as I said I am using an iMac and not a PC. I formatted the unit using the web access tool.

After formatting each drive did you re-structure the raid array?  What exactly is the navigator still reporting?

tseibert73

nope, I didnt change the RAID array. I kept the default setting (RAID 5). I only see the general format menu. should I be able to format each drive seperately? am not seeing any pull-down menu where I am supposed to select harddisc 1-4

AngelsAbys

That is fine, when yo mentioned formatting it typically drops the raid array, so just trying to get a more detailed diagram per say.  What are some of the problems that are being reported to you right now.  May be able to rememdy them with something as simple as a http://forums.buffalotech.com/t5/Storage/FAQ-1-of-5-EM-Mode-boot-procedures-please-read-this/td-p/11008" target="_self" rel="nofollow">EM Boot

thanks for your quick help. will have a try later. that is exactly what I mentioned earlier before...device has never worked properly but I am doing firmware upgrades/re-booting/emergency modes prior to using it as a storage device. that doesnt create too much confidence in safely storing away important data...

tseibert73

no progress. firmware updated, did create new RAID area. still no signs of freedom. NASNAVIGATOR saying 'not formatted, not connected'

any idea?

Dustrega

After creation of the RAID array the GUI still doesn't allow the RAID to be formatted to XFS?
