Cannot browse or mount shares from win XP SP3 or Vista SP2 (Change of behavior in last ~2 months.)

I have a LS-W2.0TGL/R1-V3 running firmware 3.10 (The latest one, as far as I can tell.)  I've called it "netshare".

 

I can mount the shares perfectly successfully from my MacBook Pro, as part of the same subnet.

I cannot mount the shares ("net view netshare" fails with error "System error 64 has occurred.  The specified network name is no longer available.") from the windows machines - despite the fact that 2 months ago they all mounted the drive happily (and they, too, are on the same subnet as the LinkStation.)

Strangely, "net view" with no other arguments lists \\NETSHARE.

 

The vista machine probably has a firewall that's getting in the way - but I've verified that neither of the XP boxes do.

 

The drive appears happily in NAS Navigator Ver. 2.28, but it cannot browse the shares.  Clicking on "Browse" spins an hourglass to no effect.  Double-clicking on the drive similarly has no effect.  Starting the web interface from NAS Navigator works fine:  I've restarted the LinkStation a couple times from the web interface with no change in behavior.

 

After poking about in these forums, I'd discovered that "Jumbo Frames" can cause trouble for XP:  but I've got the LinkStation set to the default 1518byte framesize.

 

Any other ideas?

Is the NAS pingable or can you access it's file system via the IP?

The NAS is pingable both by IP and name.

 

All three windows boxes see the nas with "net view", but "net view <ip>" or "net view netshare" fail with system error 64.

 

I cannot access the filesystem (from the windows machines) via IP.  Again, my MacBook Pro has no trouble mounting the share!

(Though it cannot mount the share via mount_smbfs - which it can do to other windows shares on the local subnet.)

Well, if the firmware is showing up via the NAS Navi then the only suggestion I can supply would be to re-initialize the NAS.
