Terastation Pro TS-HTGL/R5 external USB problem

Hi there,

We're having some troubles with plugging in external USB drives in to our TSPro II.

Every time we connect or disconnect the USB drive (after 'safely' removing from the web interface), everyone loses access to their shares for about a minute before being reconnected.

Is this a known bug/issue in the firmware? (1.33)

Also, every time we disconnect the drive, we get the following errors in the system log:

Aug 16 17:08:15 LONDON-FS01 kernelmon: cmd=ioerr sde WRITE 4864 1
Aug 16 17:08:16 LONDON-FS01 kernelmon: cmd=ioerr sde WRITE 4864 2
Aug 16 17:08:17 LONDON-FS01 kernelmon: cmd=ioerr sde WRITE 0 3
Aug 16 17:08:19 LONDON-FS01 kernelmon: cmd=ioerr sde WRITE 0 4

We've run a checkdisk on the drive but that didn't help.

This is common, the unit just needs to re-configure itself before the access is granted again. Usually is closer to 20-30 seconds as opposed to the minute mark

Is there a way to stop it 'reconfiguring' it self - I find it a bit silly that connecting/disconnecting a USB drive (not in any way connected to TCP/IP) interrupts access to the shares.

AngelsAbys

There is no way around this, but I will forward this on higher up the chain to see if in a FW update for units something can be changed

emtunc

Thanks, that is much appreciated.

If possible, could you e-mail/post back in this thread if anything comes of it?

AngelsAbys

Can do, when an answer comes about it will be posted here

It is a Verbatim 1.5TB external drive (model # 47513). When ever it is plugged in or removed (switched on/off), the shares disconnect for a length of time. Occasionally, this messed up open excel/word documents.

Just heard back from the higher ups, the response given was:

"There probably won't be further FW revisions on this legacy product."
