I am hoping that someone can help me with these problems I am having.  I have spent 2 hours trying to figure this out and I now need someone's help.  Here is my siuation:

I have a LS-500GL and am currently trying to connect it directly to a computer so I can access files I have on it.  I tried to install the software but it did not finish stating that I need to disable firewall and/or check connection.  I disabled the firewall and ensured the cable was connected.  Ok moving on, although the software did not install I have two icons on my computer, one that access the drive showing me the ip address storage on the drive, etc...., the other would bring up the shared files.  The screen with the ip and etc shows the ip address and the storage of the hard drive, but when i press "share" nothing pulls up, says to no network.  Now when I press the shortcut to bring up the shared files, all it brings up is files on the computer, not the server.  I placed the static address in the computer 192.168.11.150 which I think is the correct ip.  When I do that I can tell that it connects to the server but nothing happens, I can't get to the files.  I have tried to do a firmware update, hence the static ip, but then the firmware doesn't find ls-500gl.  I have tried mapping the drive and that doesn't work.  I tried the //ipaddress and the drive wasn't recognized.  I tried to reset the dang thing and nothing happened, all I did was hold the reset button though, not sure if that was right.

So that is my problem, someone please help me figure this out, I am wasting my time with this dang thing.  Think you to everyone!!

I would usually say direct connection for file access is a bad idea because you have to set your computer IP to a static address that conforms to the same subnet the NAS is on (e.g. NAS: 169.254.xxx.xxx and Computer: 169.254.xxx.yyy).  The reason for the yyy in the example is because the last octet in the IP address for the computer needs to differ from that of the NAS in order to communicate without a conflict.  Also, your syntax for accessing the files by IP should be \\[IP_of_NAS] not //.  Post back if you're still stuck.
