Trouble loading up with replacement (life for like) disk

Hi all,

I have a TeraStation Pro II 1Tb (TS-HTGL/R5), firmware v1.04, that is just connected to my PC via ethernet cable. After HDD1 failed, I purchased another identical disk (Samsung SP2505C) but am having problems re-booting the system.

All is fine during the start of the process, it starts loading the kernel but after a minute or so I get two beeps, an error message (seen E13 or 14 once, but ends in E23 - HDD faulty) and then the red FAIL light.

I have mounted it in docking station on PC and reformatted but no dice.

Anyone's help welcome! Even just a procedure to follow would be helpful.

Thanks,

Steve

Thanks Dustrega,

EM boot didn't work (still didn't show on Navigator) so moved on TFTP boot.

That worked fine to a point - the NAS showed up on Navigator, is in EM and I have amended the TSUpdater config file as suggested to force the firmware (v1.33 downloaded), but the TSUpdate application then doesn't open - User Account Control comes up and asks if I want to let the application make changes, I say yes but nothing opens. I am using Windows 7.

Config file looks like the below; I have changed the VersionCheck to 0 and added the bottom lines as per the instructions.

I have also tried running the TSUpdater application without any changes to the config file.

Any help to finish this off welcome.

[Application]
Title = BUFFALO TS-HTGL Updater Ver.1.33

WaitFormat = 300

[Target]
ProductID = 0x00002005

Disable the UAC (the Windows help should give a walkthrough for this) and attempt again.  Also, make sure the files are extracted from the archive you downloaded.  It may look like a normal folder on access but the .zip archive won't allow other resources the updater needs in order to run to be called.

Thanks Dustrega, disabling the UAC seems to have done the trick! Great, got it working for the first time in 6 months...now wholly working, as I have an E13 Array error and a HD1 E23 error (justreplaced this drive, although was used) but at least I have access. I presume I need another drive long-term...

If you're in warranty (the US has a 3 year for these devices, not sure for UK) you can get the drive replaced under that.  Otherwise, you'll have to replace the HDD with one of equal or greater capacity and rebuild the array.  Glad that worked for you though.

Edit: Looks like a 2 year warranty is available for devices purchased in the UK.
