Hi,

there is some trouble with my terrastation. After normal shutdown and reboot the other day, following message appeared in display,

HD4-Error, Booting in EM-Mode without any acces via NAS navigator or web access.  According to instructions found in the forum I re-installed BIOS.

After the re-install, access is possible and data is available. Today I replaced HD4 according to user's manual by a brand new identical model hitachi HDS725050KLA360, but nothing happens. There is still this message in display:

Error E23, Operation Mode I12, Degrade Mode, HD4 is Faulty, RAID Error E13

left LED: green permanent lit, but flickering, yellow and red: permanent on

right led: operating HDD only 1-3 lit green if drive access (e.g. copy data), otherwise not lit. HD 4 is indicated with red LED.

When accessing by web /  RAID configuration / Raid Group 1, a popup appears:

"Error occurs in RAID group
Chose Target drive an select "RAID group restructure" (or similar, because message is in German)

Writte in red, below the 4 data cariers listed, "chose \bew structure of data carier\ and rebuild RAID Group"

However, this cannot be done, because it will erase all data and there is not enough space to backup all data from server on local HDD.

Any idea, how can get back my 4th HDD without losing data ?

Hardware:

TS1.0TGL/R5 with 4x hitachi HDS725050KLA360 , cap 500GB each

Mode: RAID 5

Bios 1.04 (from download are)

Windows 7 ultimate

Thanks and greetings from Germany

Robert.

Well well...the issue is solved.

Here are the mystical and completely unlogical things that happened after -from my point of view- logical actions:

1) I erased useless data on local pc to backup server, which still worked

2) Downgraded bios to 1.0. No LED lit, no error messages, however, HD4 still not working

3) Rebuild Raid erray - all data lost on server (but I kept my backup)

4) Error HD2 and HD4 cannot be mounted

5) Deleted RAID Array 1 and upgrade back to bios 1.04

6) Install RAID 1 mode - this worked well and proper, but was not RAID mode I intended to have, but it definitively reconfigured RAID

7) After Format of all disks, I deleted again RAID 1 mode and mounted HDD in RAID 5

8) After obligatory RAID check everythings was fine, but after a reboot of Terrastation no RAID array was found, all 4 HDD-LED lit red and HD2 and HD4 were found "not mounted"

9) o.k. I deleted again RAID array and configured the array "spanning" and formatted the disks - that worked fine, also after some reboot

10) Now I deleted the array again and configered now to RAID5...that's how it is working for the time being.

The newly purchased disk is not mounted yet so it seemed to be a very resistent and nearly fatal error of disk structure.

Maybe this could help someone. IN the end I'm  really confused about data security and reliability of such NAS.

Greetings

Robert
