Slightly after my warrranty expiration, my Linkstation LS-CH500L died after a power hit. I have followed the procedures for recovery in EM mode and attempted to reflash the firmware, but when I can finally see the device on my network it tells me I need to reformat the actual drive. I have tons of data on this thng and unfortuantley can't affored to bring it to a data recovery specialist. So here is where I'm at:

- I cracked open the case

- Dropped the dirve into a SATA Dock

- Can view the partitions in Windows VIsta MMC Drive Manager but unable to access any data, again, says its an unformatted partition.

- Downloaded a copy of UFS explorer where it sees files, but is unable to actually recover any data. It give a generic meaage "unabel to laod file"

Reccomendations on next possible steps??

- I have seen some documentation for using Knoppix, but I have no clue as to how to operate linux/unix as I'm a windows guy all the way.

- If I purchased another linkstation on ebay and simply plugged the dock into the USB port, woudl I be able to recover/read data that way? As a secondary drive?

Thanks in advance for any help! I'm almost willing to try anything but I'm definately on a budget.

Richard
