Hi,

I have HD-HS500U2 usb external drive. Laptop (with win xp home) and external drive freezes almost every time i started to transfer files from laptop to external drive.  Red light stops blinking (red light is shown all the time or not at all) and windows xp file transfer animation freezes (time line does not move at all). I usually move pics (about 40-50 pics at time) or videos (5-10 videos, á 30-100mb) and it freezes time to time. It is not possible to copy 900mb videos at all because of freezing. I use Turbo USB.

I think this is same kind of problem than here:

Problem still occurs. I buy this external drive in 2008 and problem is still shown. I have been used with two different computers.

Thanks

At this point i would suggest running a disk check on the unit to find and fix bad sectors and file system errors, also please verify the format of your drive.  Both options can be found by choosing properties from the right click menu under "my computer" on the device.

Arzzi

Disk type is NTFS and i few hours ago made this disk check. After that i made disk defragment and after 55% disk freezes.

AngelsAbys

when you ran the check did you select both options that were available?  If it made it past that an than still fails at other tasks, sounds like there is a problem deep than what a disk check scans for.  Would suggest backing up data and trying to run another check, or even a format

Arzzi

Yes i select both options. I copied files (20mb - 900mb) and now it works. I have to move files more and retest this. And one option might be that change drive letter for an external USB disk.

If that solution works, more power to you, in truth should not make much of a difference.  but possibly Windows was having strange issues (go figure)

Problem still occurs. Change drive letter does not help. Still waiting good instructions or is it possible that there is some hw/sw problems in external drive?

AngelsAbys

I would try the unit on a different computer/different version of Windows to see if there are any changes, this 10 minute test will determine if it is the physical drive itself or not.
