I have a ls500gl linkstation that is flashing a single long light then pause and 6 flashes long pause then repeat.  I can not long into it and it was beeping when i came into the office. after i hit the power button it stopped beeping.

I've tried powering it off then on, no effect, and I dont know the  revision number or firmware number.

If you are getting 6 red flashes the firmware has become corrupted in some fashion.  The easiest way to remedy this is to please follow the link provided http://forums.buffalotech.com/t5/Storage/FAQ-2-of-3-Force-Firmware-update-procedure-please-read-this/td-p/11011" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://forums.buffalotech.com/t5/Storage/FAQ-2-of-3-Force-Firmware-update-procedure-please-read-this/td-p/11011  and if problems still persist this link http://forums.buffalotech.com/t5/Storage/FAQ-3-of-3-TFTP-boot-procedure-please-read-this/td-p/11015" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://forums.buffalotech.com/t5/Storage/FAQ-3-of-3-TFTP-boot-procedure-please-read-this/td-p/11015 Please try the forc firmware procedure prior to attempting the tftp procedure

the drive wont recognize in the updater software as it doesnt show on the NAS navigator either

AngelsAbys

Is the unit connected via your network when you tried both possible options?  Did you also try to direct connect to your computer with a static IP address and subnet mask?

miljnor

i did the tftp boot procedure and it seamed to perform as the page required but getting the firmware to the drive at that point isn't explained on that page and the nas navigator isnt recognizing it nor is the firmware program....am i supposed to enter an IP address for the drive in the firmware program?

AngelsAbys

you would not need to set the IP address, if the unit is no recognized via the Nas Navigator nor the update utility, I would suggest an RMA.  But did you try to see if the unit is detectable via a direct connection to your computer as well, eliminating all network activity while trying to run the updater

if i direct connect to computer do I need to change the IP of the computer to the 192.168.11.1 again?

AngelsAbys

try to leave it set as DHCP the first time, if there is no result than try the static address of 192.168.11.1 with a subnet of 255.255.255.0

miljnor

and would i need to turn the drive off then back on for the new image to work?

miljnor

i tried both without turning drive off and then after ...both with dhcp enabled and then again with the IP 192.168.11.1 and subnet mask as 255.255.255.0

nothging is recognizing drive but the tftp boot procedure works everytime...just nothing afterwords....i will re-read everything again and see if i am missing anything....im going to loose several days of data unfortunately its a reall big couple of days....le sigh.  and BTW what is a RMA you mentioned earlier?

AngelsAbys

If the unit is still under warranty an RMA is the process of sending the unit in to be serviced, we do not directly offer data recovery services, but through service a series of problems can be remedied at a RMA service station that caould not normally be remedied by a home user.

miljnor

thanks for all your help....I dont know when I bought it but its been over a year Im sure so RMA is out....and I will try a data recovery service if its not to expensive

thank you again for your help.
