Terastation Live: Deleting Trashbox contents very slow

Firmware: 2.14

I've tried several times to remove the trashbox folder and it never seems to make any progress.  The status bar in the microsoft delete feature says it'll take 8 days.  The folder has about 120GB.  I have disabled the trashbox feature in Terastation.  Appletalk is disabled.  NTP is disabled.  I've performed a disk check.

How can I delete the trashbox folder in a reasonable amount of time?

The NAS doesn't really communicate to the OS too well on how long it is going to take for that data to be deleted.  For 120 GB it shouldn't be 8 days but because of the delay in the response from the NAS to the OS Windows automatically assumes that it will take that long.  The long and short is yes the reading you are receiving is inaccurate, but there is not a fix for this.  120 GB will probably take about 45 minutes to an hour depending on file sizes.

Thanks for the quick response.  But it is taking many hours, not 45 minutes.  It may be off by days.  I've tried this several times.  It'll run all day long.

I have had the same issue with the Linkstation Quad Pro, essentially the same unit as the Tera, just slower and not as many network features.  Anyhows back to your question.  I have found if I delete a large batch at once it takes longer than doing it in shorter batches.  At least when I was loading it with my first backup, Initially I was just trying to copy and entire 2TB drive, it was in the days on the progress bar,  so instead I took maybe 100GB at a time maybe even less I cant remember exactly, but anyways it made things move alot faster.   I actually anded up crashing the first unit I had due to this issue.  That is why a bit of patients and smaller amounts at once solved my problem.

 

By the way how do you like your Terastation?  I was thinking on selling the Linkstation and buying a Terastation.

But can anyone here explain WHY this box is so freaking slow to erase a short address header and allow these files to be overwritten?

Maybe you should check your network connection.  Avoid wireless.
