Linkstation Duo, wireless video streaming. Best setup?

Hi all,

 

I have got myself a new Linkstation Duo and want to use it to stream some of my media across my network. Here is my current setup,

 

Thompson router Wireless-G router (standard model given free with Be Broadband)

4~5 laptops on the network

1 x PS3 setup in the living room, connected wirelessly

 

I currently the video streaming is only just possible to the ps3. What improvements could I make?

 

Wired solutions: As the router and ps3 are in different rooms running a single wire isn't a good solution. I could possibly get wall plug-in networking devices (you know what I mean right?). Would this be worth the investment, e..g would streaming become completely smooth to the ps3?

 

Wireless solutions: The laptops will always have to be a wireless connection. What is the optimum wireless streaming solution? Would getting a much improved router help alot? Like a gigabyte ethernet with Wireless-N? Or after paying £100 for a top of the range router would I still see limited performance?

 

Any help from people who have worked with Buffalo linkstations as wireless media streamers would be awesome.

please be advised that streaming via wirelessly to your ps3 system in this case depends on a series of factors, such as but not limited to, network traffic, speed of router, size of file, format of file.  There are a series of tests that you can try just with various file sizes and file formats to obtain the results that you desire.  Another option is upgrading to N capable router and adapter cards for the laptops to severl reduce the amount of traffic presented on your network.
