Direct Connect TS1200 Nas to PC Ethernet

Tried Google till I am blue in the face and still not sure if this is or is not possible.

I have a TS1200 NAS external drive.  My new location I am on a shared wireless internet service and no longer have a internet modem.  Can I attach the DS1200 drive directly to my PC (Windows) ethernet port to get files off from it?  I also still have my Linksys router but not been able to set it up to use the TS1200.  Many thx in advance.

Did you use this router before with your TS?  If so the settings should be the same.

You can use the router without a wan connection, and should still be able to access your files.  You just have to get the pc and the TS to talk to each other, you'll do that by using nas navigator or checking connected devices in the routers admin console,  from there you'll drive map according to ip information.

You can plug the terastation directly into your pc, but you need to know what the Terastations IP address is in order to use it.  That's the issue.  The 1000 series does not have a display, so you can't see it.  You'd have to read the manual and see if it defaults to a certain IP range, I don't know.

If it was me, I would set up the router and connect everything to it, and use dhcp.

And another thing, you could always use a second PC that has wifi and a network port.  You plug the network cable into the computer and the otherside into the wan port of your router.  This second machine becomes a router.  Then you can basically go back to what you were doing before, using your router and wired network.  I did this once with an old laptop.  It didn't do anything else, except route things to the wired network.  I think most versions of windows today still will do this.  I used win 8 at the time.
