Replacing the fan on an LS220D

The subject line pretty much covers it. I have an old LS220D that was working fine, but the fan bearings finally gave out. I took the fan out, googled the part # and got another one off of Amazon. Just a StarTech brand, but has the same 3 wires that the original has.

When I put it in and start the NAS up, the fan spins. But I get this error in email over and over again.

Alert - Fan 1 Error

FAN 1 has stopped.

So I went back to Google and found not just a replacement fan, but the exact same brand and model # of the original. Nidec D34666-57.

Has anyone ever successfully changed a fan in one of these. I did search here and I found one person back in 2011 asked the same question I'm asking about a different NAS, but got no answer.

I don't know what should be special about the original fan.

Thanks,
David Chamberlain
