Booting from HD-PXU2

I just purchased 2 HD-PXU2 ministations for backup cloning my macbook pro HD. I cloned with the first one, but I can't get it to boot. I'm running Mac OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard) 

I've never had this issue with my other portable HD's. Can you shed some light on it for me?

Does the hard drive show up in disk utility?

yes, it acts normal for most intents and purposes. I just can't boot from it like ai can every other USB attached drive I have ever tried.

That is because this is not like every other usb device. This one comes with full disc encryption. You will not be able to boot from it. Sorry.

I wish that was conveyed in the product description, I feel like I've been screwed out of a drive. Well, actually two, I purchased two together. That's kind of an important feature to not disclose.  

 

And I can't take the drives out of the enclosures and boot them can I?

Most people dont buy external hard drives to boot off of : P. But usually if it says "full drive encryption" I would have called pre sales first and confirmed that. Sorry about the inconvience.

Who calls the manufacturer before buying a portable HD? What is pre-sales?

 

I read the product description like most people do. If it's not bootable, it should be mentioned in the product description.

I've never seen it where the manufacturer has external hard drives to boot off as a feature.  Especially with an encrypted drive with a CDFS partition.
