Install and Web Access question

I  tried installing this unit twice, reformated once and am on another install.  This just may not be my cup of tea, I'm thinking.

 

During install I get an error while the installation of File Security Tool is attempted.  The error message is, "Failed registry obtain.  Unable to change security level".

Don't know whether that's a biggie or not.

 

Also, when I try to open web access either through the web admin tool or browser, I get the message," The server 192.168.1.109 at web access requires a username and password".  I have no idea where I would get these from.

 

In WebAccess Service, what is the BuffaloNas.com Key?

 

Finally, is there a "NAS for The Stupid" that dumbs down the terminology used in the manual?  Can't believe I am having so much trouble grasping what is being said in the manual.

For web access you have to either set the folder permissions to:

 

allow anonymous,

all users and groups,

or use inherent folder permissions.

 

Allow anonymous will get rid of the username and password issue that you are having and allow anyone to access the unit. Although if you would like it to be more secure I would use either all users and  group or use inherent folder permissions. Selecting allow all users and groups will allow any user or group that you created through the user management or group managements tabs. Using inherent folder permissions would use any access restrictions you have set up for the folders and groups.

The buffalonas.com key is a key to protect others from others using your buffalo nas name.
The File Security Tool is not required for this hardware.

During the initial installation when you received "Failed registry obtain.  Unable to change security level" message, this is just down to the security settings on Win7. This should not affect you being able to access the data on the LinkStation but if there are any issues you may  need to contact Microsoft for info on changing the security level manually.

 

For logging onto the LinkStation the default username is admin, and the password is password.

 

Under Web Access, the BuffaloNAS.com key is a unique password you need to create to go with teh BuffaloNAS.com name. You will not be prompted to enter this key when accessing the unit via BuffaloNAS.com, it is only used if you need to reconfigure the web access settings on the LinkStation if it was disconnected for an extended period (3 months).

Hi, I had the same error message and this causes that the Linkstation will not trun on (from auto setting) when my pc is turned on! How to proceed?
