LinkStation Won't Boot, Diag Light Blinking

I have a Linkstation, Model #HD-H250LAN (F), SN45800460613207 F, on which the DIAG light is blinking six times in sequence. The unit  tries to come on when I press the power switch, and then dies after a few seconds. I have tried booting it while holding down the INIT button. The NAS Navigator won't find it. This unit is several years old; I assume it isn't under any kind of warranty that would allow the drive to be replaced. Is there a way to revive it, or is it just toast?

Sounds like a hard drive error. only chance you have to recover your data if the drive is intact is to plug it into a linux box and mount the xfs drive.

Thanks, Kameran, I figured. Don't have aLinux box, but fortunately the data on the drive was backed up to my computer.

I've had the same problem - initially the fan failed (4 blinks), so got that running again but now the unit has decided it can't recognise the disk (6 blinks).  Mercifully all of my data has been copied over to another unit (via a Linux machine).  Time consuming, but painless, via a USB caddy.

So now the question is how to get the Linkstation running again (even if it means completely re-initialising/formatting the disk).  There's no web interface available and no evidence of ethernet activity visible at the router (the power led keeps flashing and ultimately the red 6 blinks start).  DHCP cannot be working as the router would feed its allocated IP address.

Same problem here, I have linux box, anyone suggest how I connect it?  Via usb cable or ethernet?

You can try booting the unit with the TFTP boot procedure.  Download and extract the software from the link below.  Plug the unit directly into a pc, and set a static IP address of 192.168.11.1 on the PC.  Boot the unit while holding the INIT button.  Once the link light turns on, run the TFTP software.  You should see "Listening on: 192.168.11.1"  If you do not see this, close and run the software again.  Once the unit boots, run the latest firmware update that is available for that model number.  This should hopefully get the linkstation back in working order.
