I just purchased a TS-WXL Terastation Duo. (TS-WX1.OTL/R1)

I connected it to the network on the same subnet as our Active Directory 2008 Servers.

Setting up the IP Addressing worked fine and I can ping the devise from the client machines.

However, I have not been able to join this device to the domain. This is important to set user rights to this shared storage.

Firmware is currently 1.10

Question #1: How do I upgrade the firmware?

I already downloaded the firmware update from Bufflao's Website: TeraStation X Series Firmware Updater Ver.1.20
http://www.buffalotech.com/support/downloads/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.buffalotech.com/support/downloads/

I tried copying the extracted firmware files to the device itself and running from there (No Luck)

I also tried to execute the firmware update from my own computer. (No Luck)

Question #2" I saw a few posts here regarding the inability of Buffalo NAS Devices to connect to Server 2008 Domains.

Can someone clarify what models are 2008 AD compatible? I keep getting an error (Check username/password and other settings) when I attempt to join the domain.

Thanks

Dustrega

1. Don't run a firmware update from the NAS itself (http://forums.buffalotech.com/t5/Storage/FAQ-2-of-3-Force-Firmware-update-procedure-please-read-this/td-p/11011" target="_self" rel="nofollow">read this post for forcing a firmware update)

2. The TS-WXL is listed to work with Server 2008 and the only suggestion I can really offer is to check the GMT in the time setting and make sure that's correct.  Anything outside of 5 minutes with the AD Server time will result in failure.  Also, check the user/pass used to join the device to AD and make sure no special characters are used.

Most importantly, never ever copy a firmware directly to the device and run it as the firmware update forces the NAS to reboot and you can guess what happens when it reaches that point.  You could very well brick the device attempting such a procedure.  Post back with any questions/results you can provide.
