I was wondering if it is possible to replace the 500GB drives in my HS-DHTGL/R5 2.14 with 1 or 2 TB drives?  Would I need to upgrade the firmware?

Thank you

JoshC

Its not supported but yes you can.  Im not sure if it will handle 2tb drives.  You would have to load the boot image from the TFTP boot then apply the firmware.

Thank you for the reply.

With that answer in mind I have a couple of follow on questions.

Will just any drive do, or are the drives from Buffalo recommended?  Do I need RAID class drives?

Is loading the boot image from the TFTP boot and applying the firmware a difficult task?

Thank you!

JoshC

If you are gonna do it then I would recommend using the same drive's but just upgrading the size.   As far as I know you dont need "RAID Class" drives.  The TFTP is fairly simple and the force firmware is also simple.  The TFTP and Force Firmware are lined out in the FAQ's 2 and 3.

I finally got around to giving this process a try.  Then I went to look at FAQs 2 & 3 here and this is what I get:

If anyone knows what those FAQs said, it would be much appreciated.

I just called and spoke with someone in tech services who told me upgrading the drive capacity was not possible.  This is a deal breaker for me, as I can't imagine buying a Terrastation III now and having to replace it with an entirely new one as capacities increase.

So can it be done or not?  Has anyone done it?  If so, what are the steps?  TIA!
