Terastation gets HOT when sleeping

Hi all,

I recently noticed that in the mornings my Terastation (TS-X2.0TL/R5) is very hot to the touch on top of the unit towards the back. Once it wakes, powers back up and the fan kicks on the temperature drops to a more normal level. The unit is only about 3 months old and I am fairly sure this is a recent development. This morning, knowing that I would be gone all day decided to power the unit down completely, and to my surprise when I came home this evening it was hot again...!?

It stays plugged into a UPS which I keep on 24/7. It's powered by 220v/50hz. The switch on the back is set to 'auto'. There is no other heat source nearby. Firmware is 1.04

The heat doesn't seem to be good for long term health, I hate to be wasting electricity, and it doesn't seem very convenient to shut down AND unplug every night. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Could be an issue with your ups backup.  If the device is off but still getting warm, try disconnecting your ups and see if the device gets warm if it's plugged into normal power input (ie wall or surge protector) and still heats up while device is off..  If that is the case the device could be faulty and you would want to backup your data and call in for a replacement.

Hi,

Try setting the back switch to "Manual" instead of "AUTO".
