LS-XH2.0TL slows to a crawl when backing up using Barracudaware/Server backup

I just configured a new LS-XH2.0TL, connected to a GB switch and running Server Backup from Barracudaware ( http://www.barracudaware.com/products/server-backup" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.barracudaware.com/products/server-backup ).  The backup runs very very slow, indicating that is it processing about 150MB/minute.

Trying to copy large test files to the Linkstation in Windows Explorer after the backup software has been running is also very slow and the only way to get it back to normal is rebooting the Linkstation.  After a fresh reboot of the LS it copies 3GB files in about 2 minutes in Windows Explorer.

The Windows system is running Windows 7 Ultimate.

What is the transfer speed with a single large file?  From what you state that does seem a little slow.  What firmware are you running and how full is the unit to capacity?

hbruun

I have firmware version 1.10 on it.

The unit is brand new and empty when I'm doing these tests.

As stated in my initial post, large single file transfers to the drive are fast, but only as long as no busy/lengthy operations have been performed previously.  Once my backup software has been running for a few minutes and placed 5-10GB of data on the drive then operations slow to a crawl.  At that point it is even slow if I cancel the backup and try the single large file copy.  Only a reboot of the unit brings the speed back on the single file copies.

Hm, I didnt get that impression by your first post (may want to reword it for clarity), how many files are we talking about?  The unit will be much slower at transferring several smaller files than one large one.  What are the ACTUAL speeds (MBPS) that you are getting for the single large file and several smaller files?

hbruun

About 3-3.5 MB/sec in the slow/backup situation (the backup software writes 1GB files), but closer to 45-50 MB/sec when I have rebooted the unit and copy a single 3GB file in Windows Explorer.

Update the firmware to the latest version, and reset to defaults.

I have a feeling that the backup software is trying to communicate to the LS through some Windows API that the LS doesn't support.

hbruun

I've updated to firmware version 1.24 and reset to defaults, but the problem remains there.

I did notice one other issue, I had 11 1GB files sitting in a trashbox folder on the drive.  Windows 7 is telling me that it will take 7 minutes and 30 seconds to delete the 11 files.
