I have an external Hard Drive that I purchased some time ago "External HD-HS500Q" . . .  It has been working fine on two different computers.  I only operate the external drive periodically . . . When I need something from the storage.

I recently tried to access my hard drive only to find that the drive would show the ON light but would sound like the hard drive was "Whirring" UP and DOWN, then would stop after a few times.  The ON light would stay on but the drive would have no sound or vibration indicating that it was turning.   Is there a firm ware or software problem here?
