Can not access LS421DE from different Subnet

I am having an issue that I am unable to access my LS421DE (Firmware 1.87) from a different subnet.  If my Windows machine is on the same subnet, there are no issues.  There are no router firewall rules that would prevent me from Pinging the LS421DE but I don't get any response.  I also have an older Buffalo NAS model LS-WVL (Firmware 1.75) that is on the same subnet as the LS421DE which I CAN ping from a different subnet.  So therefore it seems it is because of the NAS firmware on the LS421DE.  Anybody know how to solve this issue as I would like to place the LS421DE at a different physical site and connect to it via a Site-to-Site VPN (different subnets) that I already have established.

How does the LS421DSE get its IP address?  Ideally it should use DHCP.  Your router (running DHCP) will provide the IP, Mask, DNS and Default Gateway values.  When I set up a Site-to-Site VPN I do so using the routers at each site, and the router is the Default Gateway.  You may have done it another way.

If you have the Default Gateway set correctly on the NAS, when it wants to send packets to the remote LAN it knows to actually send them to the Default Gateway where the VPN carries them onwards.

I think after 1.5 years he might have moved on from the issue.
