Hi Guys

Hopefully an easy question however not had any joy finding an answer searching the forum or Google.

I have a new PC running windows 7, I also have a LS-CHLB16 connected to my router. I have manually mapped the drive in windows 7 and can access it no problem. Windows states the drive is formatted with NTFS.

When I try to set up windows backup windows does not see the hard drive as a possible location for the backup.

Does anyone know of anyway to get windows to show this drive in the backup options?

You stated that it sees the drive in NTFS?  That is an impossiblity the file format is XFS linux.  Where did you see that at?  That have might have a big part in it.  Here is one backup software that you can try  there is a free 30 trial verison so you can try it out.

Ahh ok that would explain why backup does not see it. Windows 7 needs the file system to be NTFS for the backups.

I Thought it was NTFS as when I select the shared drive it falsely shows the drive as NTFS.

I use windows 7 backup to a 750GB linkstation ok, it doesnt need NTFS as its backup volume.

I'm not to familiar with the Windows Backup Programs   Alot of usesr do use third party software such as Acronis, Nortons, Memeo.  I know those programs are pretty user friendly also.

Anim did you change the filesystem that the drive uses?

Just double checked the windows help for the backup solution that gives guidance on why it might not work and it states:

"The destination isn't formatted as NTFS, FAT, or Universal Disk Format (UDF) (also called Live File System). Backups can only be saved to disks that are formatted using the NTFS, FAT, or UDF file systems. For more information, see Convert a hard disk or partition to NTFS format."

JoshC looks like you are right need to look at an alternative.

Cheers for your help.
