DriveStation FlexNet 1.0TB Mac 10.6 support?

I purchased this device because several websites stated it supported the Mac OS.  I have a Vista laptop and a MacBook with Snow Leopard.  I have formatted the drive as FAT 32.  I have no problem mounting/reading and writing on the VISTA laptop.  I can mount via smb the drive on my Macbook and can read the files however I cannot write to the folder (which defeats the purpose of me getting this NAS).  The error message I get if I try to copy a folder is as follows:

The operation can't be completed because an unexpected error occured (error code -1427)

If i try to copy a single file like a jpeg I get the following error:

The finder can't complete the operation because some data in "NameOfFile.jpeg" can't be read or written.

I contacted tech support and after waiting for about an hour I was told that no Mac OS is supported for this device and no plans are expected for Snow Leopard support.

Does anyone know how to fix this issue?  Or a work-around?

I'm not sure why Buffalo would name a product "FlexNet" and only have it support 1 brand of OS when other products do support multiple Operating Systems.  That doesn't sound very "flexible" to me?

We apologize for the inconvience and the troubles.  As of right now there is no work around and we are still looking into the issue further.

Is there an update to this situation? I'm kinda desperate for a solution

lanzelot

I have the same problem.

I need a solution for this. You cannot help me with this I will have to return the HD

thanks.:smileymad:

Please keep your responses constructive.  The DriveStation Flexnet is not listed as compatible with the Mac OS, but we have heard of people using them together without issues.  Buffalo is looking for solutions and workarounds.  A previous post was moved because it violated the user guidelines.

Actually, it's my bad. It didn't say there was mac support and I completely forgot to check out the OS support. Should have known better than to just listen to sales people. My apologies.

Weird though.. could have sworn I read somewhere that Macs are supported....

It will most likely work with 10.5 and earlier, at least as far as I have tested.

lanzelot

Yes it did work on 10.5 then I ugraded and now it doesn't work?

Now my question is to moderators and administrators of this forum, I need to know if your R&D department is, or will do anything about this?

Or you just think that by have new models and not supporting the old ones you will be fair with the market?

If I get no answer it will go back to the store...

Thanks.

Acutally, the problem might be on Apple's side. It works on every platform except for OSX 10.6 and up.

Anyhooo, Apple just released an update a few days ago 10.6.3 for SL. One of the included fix is the write error for FAT format drives. Let's just hope this fixes things.

- resolve an issue that prevented files from copying to Windows file servers

UPDATE: Doesn't work

mk2000

I am interested in this product but the reported problems with SL are a stopping point.

However, for those that have already bought the Flexnet, you could try the following and report back.

There is a product we use at our work place called AdmitMac by Thursby that essentially allows better intergration of our Macs to our Active Directory environment.  Specifically, the product also replaces the built in samba framework with a more robust and compliant SMB/CIFS client.  There is an evaluation copy available here:

Could one of you guys report back and let us know if this works?
