backup between terastations autowake?

I use a 1200 as a server, and once a week I have a ts5210 that 'wakes up' to do a backup.  Will the 'wake up' occur automatically just from the backup job?  My understanding is that once a backup starts, the terastation will stay awake until it completes; is that true for both terastations, or just the one that is running the backup job?  Thanks
