Does anyone know if the drives in the LS 220 can be pulled and used with a SATA adapter to access the data as an external drive?  I ask because a chassis on a previous NAS of mine failed and the manufacture (not Buffalo) doesn't support it any more.  It used HW based encryption, so all of my data was trapped on the drives.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I'm very eager to see if someone knows because I am wondering the same thing. SATA to USB adapters are very inexpensive...less than $30.

Yes, you can connect the drives to a linux system and read the data. Depending on the system you may need to install mdadm and xfs_progs (since the data resides in an XFS filesystem in an MDADM array).
