I have a Linkstation LS-WVL/R1 Series NAS. I'm having an issue with a few features that work with IP addresses but not server names. For example, NTP Synchronization works with 45.63.54.13 but not pool.ntp.org. Also, Email Notification works with 173.194.205.109 but not smtp.gmail.com. The Firmware Update is giving me the error "cannot connect to update server". I suspect the same issue, but cannot confirm it.

Browsers and other Windows apps work from my computer without issue. How do I get the Linkstation to resolve server names to IP addresses?

What DNS server do you have the device configured to use?

DOH, the Primary DNS setting was blank. Probably because I have DHCP disabled. I set it to the same value my computer uses, and now the server names work.  The Firmware Update works too. The Email Notification didn't work with the settings I used yesterday, but I set it to outlook.office356.com and it's working now. Thanks for leading me to the solution.
