Faulty Linkstation 7 red flashes

Thought I'd share this with everyone,

 

My Linksation (1TB S-CH1.0TL)  died the other day, and when I checked the warranty it was 1 day over a year, so no chance of getiing a relacement, gutted I couldn't believe it, all my stuff was stored on it with no back up, so I thought no problem I'll take out the sata hdd and stick it in a caddy, No luck, then I thought well i'll open up my desktop and stick it in there, No luck, I was pulling my hair out, then I realised the Linkstation has a linux file system, so I downloaded an EXT2/3 driver, yeah getting somewhere it recognised the drive, but yet it said it was raw linux, so I thought what's raw linux, after some googling minutes later, I realised it has been formatted with the XFS file system, some googling minutes later lead me to belive the only way to read XFS file systems was through linux, so I downloaded VMware and ran linux in a virtual window, hallelujah, found him!

 

Still I had problems getting stuff off the drive, then I found this software, you won't find it by googling, it can read the XFS file system, suddenly a smile spread across my face, my linkstation was not dead all my files were in perfect working order!!

I was about the delete this post because I throught it was spam... Glad I didn't.

 

UFS Explorer is a useful software for that purpose, and I have recommended it to many people.
