Hi.

I am new to this, so please forgive me.  I know very little about storage units / PC's, so a lot of this seems complicated to me..

I have a LS-CH1.0TL NAS Drive (approx 6 months) which was working fine, until I tried to configure it as a print server.  After I did this, it has stopped working.  Whether this is a coincidence or not, I do not know.  Ddn't even get to use a print server....didn't get that far...

When I now switch on, the light at the top, and the function light, just flashes blue.  After a while, this stops, and both lights flash an orange light (first flash long, second flash short)

After a while, it appears in NAS navigator 2,  it an IP of 192.168.1.6, says it is in EM Mode, and says "the bad sectors of disk 1 reaches emergency level.  The EM Mode was detected. Update firmware or contact technical support"

I have read a few messages with this sort of message, but none are exact, and don't want to do the wrong thing. Do I use ISupdater to update firmware?

So, just a few questions .... to start with!

1. How do I update my firmware?

2. Will I lose everything on the drive....(please say no...lots of pics of my daughter...not backed up..!!)

3. Should I be able to connect directly?  Will this help? (Do I need a crossover cable)

Hope someone can help, and many thanks for reading.

Graham.

Here is what I know and I am not a pro but can tell you what I can. As far as updating the firmware you will not loose your data. Yes you can connect directly. I dont know if you need a crossover cable but I did not use one. I know some of the newer computers can (for lack of a better word) cross it over for you and can read it either way. I connected it directly to my laptop and waited a few minutes for the ipaddress to work itself out and presto I was able to connect to it via the "map a network drive" option on your "My Computer" screen. Hope some of this helps.

Thanks for the reply, much appreciated.  Any ideas how I update my firmware?  Do I need to know the version of my existing firmware, as I have no idea..!

Many thanks.

Graham.

The firmware update is pretty straight forward. I am in the US and this is the page I go to. Choose your model and follow the directions. Im pretty sure you need to have the NasNavigator installed on you computer. Besides that its a self-extracting file that runs itself.

Hi

Downloaded the firmware update, but it doesn't find the NAS drive at all.  Its very strange, cause it doesn't give it a 192.168.11.150 ip address as I have read in previous threads, it gives it a 192.168.1.6 IP address, which is my network IP address range.  So it must be connecting to the router........??????

It sees it in NAS nav2 (gives the EM Mode message as above), but when I try and run the \\192.168.1.6\ ip address, it returns a message of "a device attached the system is not functioning", and cannot browse to it in Internet Explorer.....

Hopefully a moderator can read this and point me in the right direction?  It may be that the hard drive is corrupt (Which I do hope not...!!!) but at least I wouldn't be wasting my time....!!!)

If the NASNavi sees it, but the updater doesn't, try quitting the NASNavi, then run the firmware update. If that still doesn't work, do the force firmware update procedure (stickied at the top of the Storage board).

Hi

I tried to update my firmware as suggested.

It did not work via a laptop with Vista and wireless, so I tried with the LAN cable that came with the device and this still didn't work.  I disabled the firewall and anti-virus.  The device also changed to a 169.254 IP address when plugged into my laptop, so I changed the laptops NIC card to a 169.254 IP address as well, but this did also not work. (I disabled the wireless connection)

I tried all this again with a laptop running XP Pro, as I didn't know if Vista made a difference, but this still did not work.

I am trying to update to Firmware 1.07....is this correct? Do I need to try 1.21?

Would a cross over cable be needed?

I also looked at the thread for a forced firmware update at the top of the forum and it doesn't make sense at all?  Am I missing something?

Thanks.

Graham.

Yet another update.....

Tried updating for Version 1.21...

It finds the device, but comes up with a message saying "Couldn't find a partition exists on target....update will format target...all data will be lost..."

Is there another way?  Really don't want to format and lose everything...is there any other option...

Please help...!!!

Cheers

Graham.

Something happened where it completly corrputed the file system and wiped out the partition.  Unforunetly no there is nothing you can do.
