Hi all, in 2015 I bought TeraStation 1200D and now the second drive has failed. My local retailers do not have ST4000DM000 -drives in stock, so my question is if I can replace the failed drive with ST4000DM004 and I could expect the array working again on-a-fly ? I tried looking the meaning of that last digit on the model number with no results.

Web client http://192.168.0.xx/detail.html#disk for this TS says that Array1 is Degraded. 93% used, XFS File System.

Thanks in advance for your replies, and have a pleasant Sunday!

Yes, once the specs of the disks match it should be fine, put the new disk in and recover the RAID via Drives - RAID - Array1.

Thanks for your reply!

According to https://pangoly.com/en/compare/hdd/seagate-4tb-barracuda-st4000dm004-vs-seagate-barracuda-4tb the newer drive have higher cache 256MB vs 64MB and higher RPM 5900 vs 5400.

  • should this new drive work anyway, or does the specs vary too much? (How much is too much?)
  • should any drive from any manufacturer, with same specs (TDP, Capacity, Cache, RPM, Interface, Form Factor), work fine?
  • should I hunt down another ST4000DM000 no matter what? Even though these exact drives can be 7+ years old.

Thanks again

davo

RPM should match or else you could have issues, the cache can he higher. The make / model number doesn't need to match.
