Can someone explain the differences between these 2 units? I don't need many bell and whistles. If one drive is faster than the other, that would be the deciding factor.

Thanks

I haven't heard much about the new LS Live, but I own a LS Pro and can tell you it's pretty quick. On my gigabit network, I peak at around 175 mb/s (that's roughly 21 MB/s) download, with an average of about 160 mb. Uploads are slightly less, with an average of about 125 mb/s.

I did hear that the older LS Lives, which were basically a LS Pro with a different firmware, were much slower for some reason. Again, haven't heard much about the new ones, although from just looking them up, they do look nice (and affordable!).

When I was buying my NAS, I found http://smallnetbuilder.com/" target="_blank">SmallNetBuilder to be a great resource. Be sure to check out ther http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/component/option,com_nas/Itemid,190/" target="_blank">NAS performance charts. Hopefully they'll review the new LS Live soon and test it.

Both devices have the same network speed however the new LS live has features like Time Machine Backup, web access, inbuilt media server (so you can connect with a media player, PS3 for example) and a printer server. The LS pro does not have any of these but can be integrated with Active Directory (this is more for business use which you probably will not need)

Basically if your a home user then go for the Live.

PM me for TFTP / Boot Images / Recovery files  LSRecovery.exe file.

Thanks for the info. I'll look for the new LS.

Unless you need AD integration, get the LS-CHL.  It looks better (newer design), it has other new features like TimeMachine and BitTorrent.  They have the same processor, memory, and Gig-E chip on them so they'll be the same speed.

Hi, I have connected my LS-ch500 to my Gigabit network and get 66Mb/s (bits/sec) transfer rate. Can I get more and is there any tuning document I can use. I can get 200Mb/s between PC and would like to get close to this if possible.
