I am looking for an external storage solution. This solution will be connected to a 2003 Server via usb cable as my software requires a "local drive" to be seen. I would like a raid 1 set up. I noticed that the raid setup software only supports up to Vista. My question...I can run the software on my Win XP pc and configure the raid mode. Does the raid mode get saved to the unit itself or is there some sort of software that needs to be running all the time? I would like to have an external raid 1 usb setup that is basically plug and play on my server.

Yes you should be able to set up the RAID on a different computer as these units use hardware RAID.
