just bought Buffalo Quad Station with 1 disk of 1T Octets initially configured and coming with the device. I don't get any issue with such configuration and the device is up and running perfectly. I plan to do an extension of my configuration and I just bought one additional disk. It is the same brand WD Caviar Green, but 1.5 T Octets, even if I know that I canot  use the additional 0.5 To using raid mode.

But, actually when I plug the new disk, the station doesn't reboot properly and doesn't recognize the new disk, led flashing 6 times. I try to format the disk with a PC using partition magic with Linux format EXT3, but it's the same. What should I do?

Note: I upgraded the firware to 1.1 on the web interface I get: LS-QL F/W 1.11

Thanks in advance for your support

They are friendly, but unable to give real advice by phone, excepted to bring back device which I can't do as I'm living in Vietnam.

On top my request is extremely simple, I want just get technical guy knowing the product. My device is working well; I want just to do extension adding an additional disk on top of the existing one. As per indicated in the manual and all nice marketing message that we received on this product, this should be a basic feature

There is nobody able to help me on line? I'm extremely disappointed by this product and support that I can obtain. My request is very simple; how to add a new disk WD Caviar Green 1.5 To on top of the initial one coming with the Quad station a WD Caviar Green also but with 1 To of capacity?

I'm not even taking of any Raid configuration. I know that I can't mix 1.5 To with 1 To without scarifying the 0.5 To corresponding to additional capacity. I know also that if I want to move to Raid configuration I will lose data of the initial disk. I want just to add a new disk

I somebody can help me or at least to tell me who can help me, it would be great !

Jason

This product is not yet available here in the US.

We don't have any demo units or documentation for it at this point. So, if there are any caveats or requirements about adding another drive we simply do not know at this point.

I can imagine though that it would be as simple as shutting it down, putting the new drive in any open drive bay and then turning it back on and formatting that new drive through the interface.

But if it comes up from boot up with a E06 error, it must not be as simple as that, in the past the nas's could not support different drive capacities outside of the raid array, so since you're using the disks indepently I would suggest adding a 1TB drive instead of the 1.5TB drive you're adding currently, perhaps that's one of the caveats about this machine.

Thank you Jason, for this answer which at least makes sense Even if unfortunately it doesn't fix my issue as I bought already 4*1.5 To WD Caviar Green!!! To replace my original 1 To. According to all the tests that I did already and several topics that I read on this forum, it seems the only solution is to load on a fresh disk a boot image.

How can I get such « Boot image » corresponding to my firmware that by the way I downloaded from US ?

Actually, even if this void my guarantee, I'm ready to do, it will be much less expensive that a trip to Bangkok. I just need to get somebody who won't be reluctant to give me the procedure and the right files.  It should not be so complicated.

Thanks you in advance for support, it's extremely frustrating to be blocked due to this question of guarantee and dependency between the disks and the device itself.  It seems it's a fundamental design issue; we should be able to restart the NAS from scratch with one fresh disk without any issue.

I progress, finally I can get my station up and running with 4*1.5 To in RAID 5, everything looks OK, this array has been verified successfully after something like 40 hours!!! But!!

When I reboot the station I get led flashing 6 times again; "Disk not recognized", and I have to boot using TFT boot procedure which is, as you can imagine, not convenient at all!!!

Any idea to help a poor guy who spent more than 3 days to replace one disk by 4 disks, and would like know to enjoy is 4 T0 capacity, without being obliged to connect is laptop to boot the device !!!

Thanks in advance for support

Please help. I verified all documents in hands, and the procedure to add an additional disk is perfectly allowed and no indication at all that I can't use 1.5 To disk.  This is really creasy,  all legal documents that I have in hands allows me to do, but I couldn't do but nobody is able to give me a technical or even legal document.

Hi Retailleau,

I got same problem with 1.5TB, do you fix it?

JoshC

If you look through the Solved Storge Thread then you might be able to pull something up that other users have tried.

For this case I have contact with the technicians in Japan. But it can not be solved. But in Japan that can be used.
I try to follow my own step out of that.
- HDD 1.5TB, if put in tray 1 will be used, but when the tray to put in at 2, 3 or 4 red light will flash 6 times.
- HDD 1.5TB Use with HDD 1.0 TB from the factory. If put 1.0TB in the tray 2 and 1.5TB to tray 1 can work. If the reverse does not work.

- If jumper 3-4 (Power Up in Standby) put in the tray 2, 3 or 4  No red light flashing. But cannot detect HDD. (It makes me wonder about whether energy.)

- I try to 2TB is the same.

All HDD use WD Caviar Green.

Hi,

it may be many way to fix. but this is one of way that I success to change 1x500GB to 4x1.5TB ( WD Caviar Green Model WD15EARS 1.5 TB)

1) turn on with original 500 GB HDD, make sure it start completely

2) shutdown, add 1.5TB at slot 2. then startup

3) format disk in slot 2. once finish, shutdown

4) take out HDD 500GB in slot 1 and move HDD 1.5TB from slot2 to slot1.

5) startup, to prove LS-QL start normally.

6) add HDD 1.5TB to slot3 and slot4, leave slot 2 blank. then startup.

7) format HDD slot 3,4. Once finish shutdown

8) add last HDD 1.5TB at slot2, startup then format HDD at slot2.

9) when finish, shutdown restart to make sure we can start LS-QL normally.

Note: some step Nasnavi may report the disk error, just ignore and continue. especially in step 6)

hope this help.
