I have a linkstation pro duo 2tb drive. I set it to raid mode 1 (mirrored) - approx 300gb on the drive. before it was working fine. I had to move it and shut it down via the switch then disconnected it. according to the manual on page 8 in one small sentence it mentions not to do that. Now when i turn it on the light blinks constantly, the network indicator is on solid. Yet, i can not ping the unit nor see the shares. I HOPE the mirror is rebuilding/re syncing and thats why it can not be contacted. But because the User manual doesn't mention this possibility nor does it mention what could happen if shut down improperly. could anyone verify whats it doing? or how long it will take? or if i lost all my data? If so, i am going to be very sad. :(

if it's constantly blinking a few times a second it could be doing a raid check, a raid restructure, disk check.  Just let it run without powering it down for a day and see what happens.  Sounds like a restructure that could take some time as most of the time it does that it will do a disk and raid check after a restructure.

thankyou for your response, I wondered about that and have let it run for quite some time. We will have to see in the next day or so how it turns out. I wish Buffalo would make that power off warning more apparent (like bigger and on page 1) and list the consequences if it should happen.

Update- as i said before it's doing exactly what you mentioned, blinking like 6 times a second.

but.. it's outlasting the energizer bunny.  It's STILL going :(

started friday at 6pm and still going, im gonna let it go till wednesday then i guess stop back for more advice if its still going .

Man....  i wonder how long it will take. or if it's just Fubar'ed

If it blinks 6 times and then pauses then you have a bad HDD in the unit or the boot image is lost.  If it doesnt have a pattern it is a disk check.  So is it blinking 6 times or just consistantly?

da51

it just blinks, with no noticeable pause.

PCPiranha

Ok, thats fine then, we should give it a while longer. I have seen disk checks last 3 days

going on 1 week... anyone have any idea on a time frame? (2tb nas)1tb, mirrored, 300gb used.

PCPiranha

You can try resetting the unit and/or performing a firmware update.  It may have bigger problems so I would suggest contacting support for further troubleshooting/replacement.
