link station pro duo - can't access data

I have a linkstation pro duo LS-W2.0T GL/R1-EU (firmware 3.07). It's worked fine for months but today I couldn't access it via mapped drives or via IP address. I can, however, ping it.

I get these errors in firefox, chrome and IE when trying to access via IP address:

"Internal Server error" (etc etc).

"Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Apache/1.3.34/ Server at LinkStation-LSGL Port 80"

I get the same message from both Vista, XP and Linux.

I've reset the device using the function button on the back and then re-installed the software (though I get an error when installing NAS-navigator - I have a feeling the error comes after the actual installation). Although NAS Navigator can see the device, it can't see any shares: it gives an error "could not open the shared folder. confirm drive status"

Any ideas?

thanks

Alan

What does it say for the hostname in the NASNAVI.  Also what error do you get when you go into the run command and type in "\\IP".

alanr

host name in NASNAVI is LS-WTGL78D

run \\192.168.0.8 gives error "windows cannot access \\192.168.0.8" etc whereas the same command with the ip of a network printer works OK

PCPiranha

And you have double checked to make sure that IP hasn't changed after resetting right?  Also I would try updating the firmware.  Also what OS are you using?

alanr

I've updated the firmware and that seems to have sorted the problem, so thank you!

Any idea why it should suddenly have stopped working?

PCPiranha

It is hard to say when a firmware update solves the problem.  It could mean that the boot image was lost or the firmware was corrupt.  Either of these issues are usually due to power inconsistencies.

Ok, I see. Well, thanks for your help!

I'm having a very similar issue with my 1TB LS-CL. I've reset the factory settings and updated the firmware (to 1.07) to no success. NASnavi sees it, but cannot browse the drive, reporting: "Cannot open the shared folder, confirm drive status." I am able to access and use the web interface, which I used to run the Disk Check tool, which reports nothing out of the ordinary. Any further suggestions?

Try accessing it via the IP address rather than the NetBIOS name that the utility uses.

@Dustrega

Thanks for getting back on the case so quickly! My router has given it 192.168.1.104, naturally, when I go to that in my browser it takes me to the web interface.

Inputting \\192.168.1.104 in the Windows 7 run dialog box receives this error: Network Error: Windows cannot access \\192.168.1.104

Interestingly, my media center (Boxee on an AppleTV) finds and is able to browse the NAS and play media files from it.

Well, if you can access the GUI then that basically means the device is responding on some level.  Chances are it might be an OS setting.  Could you get to your network connections settings and confirm that File and Printer Sharing is enabled along with Client for Microsoft Networks?

joshutk

It DID turn out to be a network issue with my computer.

I had been using it for months with no problem, but when I returned from vacation I couldn't connect to the network drive. I tried to figure out what changes I'd made to my computer/network settings while on vacation, and determined that it was probably the fact that I tethered my computer to my phone to access the internet. I'm guessing this changed some network setting and screwed it up.

I couldn't find the exact issue, so I just formatted/reinstalled windows. I'm sure I didn't need to do that per-se, but I do love a clean OS installation.
